National School Breakfast Week 2019
March 8 is National School Breakfast Week! Held every year, National School Breakfast Week is a week-long celebration designed to raise awareness of the School Breakfast Program available in school districts. The theme this year is “Start Your Engines with School Breakfast,” which is meant to show parents, students, and school officials the benefits of fueling up for the day with a healthy school breakfast.
Research has shown that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to have better concentration and memory, are more alert in class, and reach higher levels of achievement in reading, math, and standardized tests. School breakfast participation is also associated with lower rates of absenteeism and tardiness, fewer behavioral problems, and reduced nurse’s office visits. Just as importantly, school breakfast decreases the risk of food insecurity, improves overall diet, and helps protects against obesity.
The Clark County School District Food Service Department will be celebrating with events all week long by visiting schools across the valley to promote the importance of eating a nutritious school breakfast. Visit the CCSD Food Service website for more details, as well as a list of CCSD schools that serve breakfast after the bell and information on other nutrition programs offered in CCSD schools.
