Move Your Way-Get Started
Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Did you know adults should aim to be active 150 minutes each week? 150 sounds like a big number, but if you break it down it is just 30 minutes each day. If that still sounds overwhelming start with just 5 minutes and go from there. Lots of things count as physical activity — even things you might do anyway! Housework? Playing with the kids at the park? Walking the dog? Yes, it all counts! Here are some tips to fit being active into your life:
Choose an Activity You Enjoy. You’re more likely to stick with exercise you enjoy than an activity you dread.
Start Slow. Gradually build up the amount of time spent exercising each week. Set several small, short-term goals. Reaching them will help keep you motivated.
Make a plan. Planning ahead will help you stay on track and help you make time to be active, even when you don’t think you have any! Use the Move Your Way interactive tool to plan your week of activity.
Keep Track. Monitoring workouts helps you see your progress and lets you know when you’ve been slacking off. Use a pedometer or other device to track your steps. Check out our Pedometer video to help you get started. Join the Walk Around Nevada program, either as an individual or in a walking group with friends.
There is no right or wrong way to participate in physical activity and everything from walking to cleaning your house counts! Keep in mind the goal is to Move More each day!
