It all adds up!
We all can benefit from moving more! Being active is one of the best things we can do for our health. The newest version of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans gives us recommendations for how much physical activity we need each week. Children and youth need 60 minutes of activity each day. And adults and older adults need 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity each week along with two days of muscle-strengthening activities.
Any amount of physical activity is beneficial! Work to limit the amount of time spent being sedentary. Even very short sessions of activity are better than inactivity, so there is no longer a minimum duration for physical activity to “count” towards the weekly amount. Everyone should work toward moving more and sitting less throughout the day. Check out the Move Your Way Activity Planner for adults and plan how you will be active today. Every little bit adds up! Think about breaking up your activity into smaller amounts of time throughout the day. Even 5 minutes can make a difference!
