Stay Moving During Holiday Travel
The holiday season is fast approaching, and for most of us that means we will be traveling either by car or plane sometime soon. Let’s face it, the car or airport isn’t anyone’s favorite place to be during the holidays. You don’t have to let the long lines, a cramped car and plane rides spoil your fitness routines. Here are a few tips to get you moving during your holiday travel:
- Take advantage of layovers. Walk around the airport; browse the gift shops. No reason to spend your waiting time sitting, there will be plenty of that on the plane.
- Stretch it out. While on the plane or in the car, do some simple head, neck and foot stretches to keep your body limber and your blood flowing.
- Pit Stop. When on long car trips, stop every once in a while, and get out to move around.
- Pack it. Remember to pack your workout clothes so that you can keep up with your fitness routine while you are away.
- Drink water. Be sure to stay hydrated while you are traveling. When we are out of our normal routine we can forget to drink water. Take a water bottle and sip on it frequently throughout the day.
- Take the Stairs. Skip the elevator and escalator and go old school. Get in those steps while you can, because when we travel we tend to sit for long periods of time.
- Wake up early. Instead of sleeping in late, wake up early and fit in a walk or bike ride. Check out where the neighborhood coffee shop is located or scope out the local shops and find places you might want to visit later with the whole family.
Don’t let travel get in the way of your fitness goals and routine. Do a little something each day to be active while you enjoy your holiday season!
