Nutrition Advice from a Registered Dietitian
March is National Nutrition Month! This annual campaign was created in 1973 to encourage informed food choices and develop healthy eating habits. The theme this year is “Food Connects Us”. Food connects us to our cultures, our families and our friends. Health, traditions, and access can all influence our relationship with food. While these factors impact the foods we eat, the foods we eat also affect our health.
To learn more about how we can make healthier choices every day, we reached out to a registered dietitian to ask about how we can incorporate more nutritious foods into our everyday meals.

1.) How can we include more nutritious foods into our daily routine?
We can include more nutritious foods into our daily routine by adding more whole foods into our diet such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat/fat free dairy products and lean proteins.
2.) Are there any foods we should avoid?
Foods we should limit or avoid are processed foods that are high in calories, saturated/trans-fat, added sugars, and salt.
3.) Do you have any tips for someone who is interested in eating healthier?
Keep it simple. Focus on nutritional quality by eating more nutritious whole foods and reducing processed foods. In addition, meal planning and prepping meals and snacks ahead of time can reduce the likelihood of over consuming processed foods either at home or away from home.
We appreciate the advice that David shared on how we can eat healthier!
