The United States Congress is currently considering bipartisan legislation that would grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to regulate the sale, distribution and advertising of all tobacco products.
This legislation would:
- Restrict tobacco advertising and promotions.
- Stop illegal sales of tobacco products to children.
- Require changes in tobacco products, such as removal of harmful ingredients and require tobacco companies to disclose the contents of their products.
In support of this legislation, the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has adopted May as Stop Big Tobacco month! Each week in May, ACS CAN will feature new ways you can help Stop Big Tobacco from targeting various vulnerable populations, including women, children and minorities.
Visit the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network website and learn how to take action in a fun and exciting way. Together, we can Stop Big Tobacco!
Also available on the ACS CAN website is the FDA regulation legislation.
